About the song
Description
'Here We Stand' Key Dates Reformation Day 31st Oct | All Saints 1st Nov | All Souls 2nd Nov | Remembrance / Veterans 11 Nov
Why?
‘Here We Stand’ was written in response to seeing families in my home church lose a series of dearly loved members before their time . It’s shaped by the suffering-and-glory hope of 1 Peter & the ‘Cloud of witnesses’ in Hebrews 11. It's a worship song for remembrance, unity and courageous faith. That even in loss, we stand together in Christ, joining the praises of heaven and urged on by the faithful ones who have gone before us.
What?
Suitable for funerals, Remembrance Sunday, memorial services and moments when the church needs to sing hope through tears and stand firm in witness.”
This new hymn is sung to a modern adaptation of famous Scots-Irish tune 'The Parting Glass' last used for a hymn in the 1860's. The Parting Glass, a precursor to Auld Lang Syne, was chosen because it's forthright melody and lyrics deal powerfully with the subject of 'Saying farewell'. It has been repopularised lately by Hozier, Cara Dillon & Ed Sheeran.
