Summary:
A peaceful classical-guitar instrumental based on Christina Rossetti’s much-loved Christmas text. Originally recorded for an Advent wedding in 2021, this gentle arrangement is ideal for reflective Christmas worship, children’s services, communion, candle-lighting moments or as a beautiful processional.
ABOUT THE SONG
Love Came Down at Christmas is one of the simplest and most tender Christmas texts in the Christian tradition. The poem was written by Christina Rossetti (1830–1894), whose devotional poetry is known for its clarity, humility and emotional honesty.
Rossetti’s short Christmas poem centres everything on one idea — the Incarnation as the arrival of divine love:
Love came down at Christmas,
Love all lovely, Love Divine…
Its melodic simplicity and emotional sincerity have made it a favourite for families, schools, nativity plays, and reflective Christmas worship for more than a century.
THE RECORDING — A FAMILY WEDDING IN ADVENT
This instrumental arrangement began life as a personal gift. In 2021, my borther asked if I would play during his daughtet' Advent wedding processional — something simple, warm and reverent enough to reflect the emotion of the moment without overwhelming it.
A classical-guitar setting of Love Came Down at Christmas felt perfect:
gentle pacing, clear melody, and peaceful anticipation.
The recording later became part of a short KDMusic Christmas EP, alongside new guitar arrangements of Silent Nightand A Wexford Carol (Do Not Be Afraid) — both recorded last week for RTÉ One Television’s Advent Sunday service.
